Ice Magic Festival

Written by Nadine Zangerle on . Posted in Canada

We got pretty lucky to be at Lake Louise for this special event. This weekend happened to be the International Ice Carving Competition so we stayed for 2 nights to watch the Ice Magic Festival.

12 teams (each 2 people) carve against each other for 34 hours, having 15 blocks of ice, to create their themed masterpiece.

On the frozen Lake Louise they had carved a small castle wall and the ice skaters around and in front of the glacier made a fascinating picture.

While watching the teams working on their sculptures we watched a quick demonstration of ice carving techniques and a one hour, one block competition where the ice carvers worked against the clock.

It is just incredible what artists can do with a block of ice.
