On the road, yes

Written by Nadine Zangerle on . Posted in USA

Finally we hit the road. Truck and 5th wheel is a big vehicle. So we are taking about 14 m in length.

For sure we have to learn so much more. First campground we had only 20 AMP so we need an adapter for our electricity (we normally need 30 AMP)

Micha got to practice to back in with this big thing. The roads of the national parks are quite small compared to the normal campgrounds. So turning you really have to have an eye everywhere. Rock here, big roots there and for sure trees everywhere. But Micha is really good.

The next morning we jumped in the car to explore a bit the White Mountain National Forest but our Gangsta just didn’t start.

Not more trouble. So we had to call the towing company and while the truck was at the mechanic we played some cards and waited for the call. Finally we got the information that the glow plug solenoid was broken.

Now the truck starts smoothly again. The mechanic liked our truck and said otherwise it is in great condition. Hope so, haha. So if Gangsta doesn’t start with something else we will head towards Canada.

Let’s get to the border.

And finally we saw Boston

The truck and 5th wheel need still some more attention of Micha so I go sightseeing with Micha’s parents. We haven’t seen anything of Boston yet.

Following the “Freedon Track” was easy – a 4 km long red line in the pavement. So we explored the night of the revolution and the Boston Tea Party. After a long day we went on the USS Constitution. The Old Ironside is the oldest commercialized war ship. The vessel from 1797 was really amazing.

Our feet felt a bit numb after 6 hours sightseeing so we went back to Hanover quite tired.

Never ending story

Written by Nadine Zangerle on . Posted in USA

We found out that our truck actually has an integrated hitch while waiting for the 5th wheel’s tires. Since there are two kinds of 5th wheel hitches we sure had the wrong one.

So we had to get an adapter which took another two days ordering via internet. Why should it be easy because our German credit card wasn’t accepted at the online shops. So we had to ask Sonny and Linda again. We felt already so bad and the two were so helpful. What would we do without them.

Luckily we can sleep in the 5th wheel at Sonny and Linda’s place so we can arrange already everything. But without a hitch we can’t move the trailer.

So we picked up Micha’s parents from the airport and the first three nights we had to book a motel. 2 ½ weeks weren’t enough to arrange everything. Not with all these obstacles.

Finally we got the adapter for the hitch but when we wanted to get the trailer off the Sonny’s lawn the trailers’ breaks just blocked. Sonny: Sorry for the destroyed lawn.

So the electrics didn’t match and Micha had to redo every single one. He is becoming a specialist in trucks and trailers. What a day.
