Nagarkot - Bhaktapur

Written by Michael Zangerle on . Posted in Nepal

With a driver and KB (guide) we headed for Changu Narayan, one off the oldest Hindu Temples in Nepal. Then trekking to Nagarkot (2169m) through small villages. Our hotel was View Point, the highest place in there so we could watch a spectacular sun rise the next morning. He sun kissed the highest peaks a lovely good morning.

There it is: Mount Everest

Kathmandu has thousands off tourists, locals wearing clothes in traditional or western style, a lot of traffic, honking, rubbish, cars are squeezing through narrow streets, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, too.  Nobody wants to wait, wants to be first.

Mountains, Himalya, fascinating landscape, always smiling people, always willing to talk. But our guid is willing to talk to anybody who is passing his way. They greet you with Enjoy Nepal. This is what we do. This county and the people kind off have something fascination. You may fall in love with it.

Sitting on the porch we count up to 50 eagles flying above us.

Bhaktapur

You have to pay an entrance fee to visit this little town. Nice, but wasted money.

Back in Kathmandu we meet our Mera Peak tour guide and get our equipment: sleeping bag, mattress, ice axe, cramps, etc…

Was this the right decision? We are getting sick, having a real bad flue.

Kathmandu

After an interesting week we made it to Nepal. We were here two days earlier than expected and did experience stuff you will never forget.

Wehad a pick up from Yogesh and slept very well the first night. On our second day we discovered that none off our bank cards or our mobile were working. Nevertheless, Kathmandu is a paradise for shopping trekking materials and clothes.

After  buying  two Skiing pants, two pairs off fleece underwear and one doublefleece for about 100 US we made city sightseeing. We went to Hindu temple, Buddhst stupa and monkey temple in 6 hours. And again a situation you have to imagine::

Two cars on a wide street driving towards each other would be able to pass each other even if there is a blockage on one side. The drivers do not want to change course and stop 4 meters away from each other and start discussing about how has to give way. This conversation lasted 15 Minutes and we just bit our tongues not to laugh out loud.

The Hindu temple was showing us open air cremation. This is a strange thing to see. In Europe: high temperature burning oven, here: open with wood, clothes, sugar some give away. It takes about two hours and then they throw the rest into the river.

Extreme!

Still deeply in our thoughts we enter a book store just behind Reinhold Messner. He is the one who made it first on top off the world alone with no oxygen in 1980. Certainly I asked for a signature. I was filmed as they did a documentation about him.

trip with complication

While leaving Paradise our island Anke broke her thumb. She got between two boats. When we left with our company car the parking spot she dodged against a pillar...

Nici made it with some inconvenience to KL. Luckily we could stay with a friend of Anke in Kuala Lumpur as his wife is giving birth to their first child. So Nici also stayed with us.

Even if we got our Indian Visa confirmed in August the High Commission needed two days to stamp our passports. We tried to plead for three hours for a little faster performance as our flights to Calcutta should leave at 2:30pm but we could not collect our passports before 4:30pm.

We booked our flight and night train and trek in India and Nepal according to the information of the Visa Centre, but unfortunately he misinformed us. During our time in KL the Indian Prime Minister was there which did not make it easier for us to get the Visa earlier.

We found a different solution instead and booked a flight via Dhaka (Bangladesh) to Kathmandu (Nepal). This made our travel budget a little smaller, but that’s the way it is.

To get our passports we had to be in the Visa Center between 5 and 5:30pm. Our taxi driver was a little lost and drove out off the city. We still see ourselves sitting in KL.

But somehow we made it. When we got another taxi back to our sleeping place a fire extinguisher exploded in the trunk  off the taxi with covered our stuff in a with powder. We laughed our asses off.

Next morning we made it for 7:45am to the airport and could not find our check in counter. It was closed for one hour already as the plane was delayed. The travel agent had the delayed time in his computer so we come to late for our check in. After one hour off calls and complaining we made it to the gate and were personally greeted. We boarded the plane first. The connection flight in Dhaka was delayed too. So we waited 10 hours on this small airport instead off 6.
